Profiloplasty
Profiloplasty (profile aesthetics) aims to correct the flaws seen in the side view of the face. The structure of the nose directly affects the beauty of the profile: a long, drooping or humped nose does not look good from the side. A rhinoplasty procedure improves the profile as well, but in some cases nose surgery alone may not be enough, and changes to other areas of the face can be planned together with the nose.
Planning Profile Aesthetics
Forehead – Nose Angle: The proportion of the nose to the forehead. The forehead may be wide or narrow relative to the nose. Another procedure that can be performed in the forehead area concerns the hairline. If the hair covers more of the forehead than it should, the forehead looks small; the hair in that area can be removed by laser hair removal to enlarge the forehead. The opposite can also occur: if the hair has receded or never grew there, the forehead looks wider than it should, and this width can be narrowed with hair transplantation.
Nose – Lip Angle: The proportion of the nose to the lip, i.e. the distance between the nasal tip and the upper lip.
Nose – Chin Angle: The proportion of the nose to the chin. The chin may be structurally protruding or receding.
Chin – Submental Angle: The proportion of the chin tip to the area under the chin. Fat accumulation under the chin leads to the formation of a double chin.
Chin – Neck Angle: The proportion of the chin to the neck. Sagging in the neck can negatively affect this proportion.
What Is Done in Profile Aesthetics?
Forehead Profiloplasty
The forehead can be rather flat or concave in shape, and it can be improved with fat injection using fat taken from the patient’s own body. Fat injection is a surgical procedure that requires an operating-room setting.
Eyebrow Profiloplasty
A low eyebrow position negatively affects the profile aesthetics and makes the person look tired and unhappy. Low eyebrows are lifted with a brow-lift procedure. When the eyebrows are lifted, the eyes look more open, the unhappy expression disappears and the profile aesthetics improve.
Ear Profiloplasty
Prominent ear deformity negatively affects the profile both from the front and from the side. Prominent ear surgery (otoplasty) improves the proportion of the ears to the face.
Cheek Profiloplasty
Fullness, a sunken appearance or sagging in the cheeks can be corrected with surgical procedures. Making the cheekbones more defined creates a healthier profile.
Lip Profiloplasty
In some people the lip structure is thin and lacks volume. With fat injection into the lips, fuller and more contoured lips positively affect the profile aesthetics.
Chin Profiloplasty
The chin is one of the most important elements directly affecting the profile. A chin that is too far back or too far forward in proportion to the face spoils the profile. With chin surgery, a receding chin can be brought forward with fat injection or a prosthesis, and a protruding chin is set back with genioplasty surgery to create a healthy profile.
Double Chin Profiloplasty
A double chin is caused by excess fat in the area under the chin. The procedure for a double chin is submental liposuction.
Neck Profiloplasty
Sagging in the neck area is a factor that negatively affects the profile aesthetics. Sagging in the neck is treated with a neck-lift surgery.
