Who is a candidate?

Fat transfer suits people with hollow temples, flat cheeks, deep tear troughs, thin lips or a weak jawline, and people who want to stop repeating synthetic fillers. In patients whose tissues have also descended, volume alone does not solve the problem; Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas then combines fat transfer with a deep plane facelift so that the lifted face is also refilled where it has emptied.

How the operation is performed

A small amount of fat is harvested by gentle liposuction from the abdomen or inner thigh. The fat is washed and separated into micro fat (small intact fat particles) and nano fat (an emulsified fat rich in regenerative cells). Micro fat is injected in thin layers into the cheeks, temples, jawline, chin and lips; nano fat is injected superficially under the eyes and into fine lines and scars. No incisions are needed; the injection points are smaller than a millimetre.

Recovery and results

The injected areas look fuller than the final result for the first week because of swelling. Social activities are possible after 7 to 10 days. Part of the transferred fat is reabsorbed; the volume present at three months is permanent and ages with the face. Because the material is the patient’s own tissue there is no allergy and no need to repeat the treatment every few months as with fillers.

Fat transfer versus fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible and useful for small corrections, but they are reabsorbed within 6 to 18 months and, when repeated for years, can produce a heavy, puffy look. Fat transfer uses living tissue, is placed in anatomical layers and gives a softer, longer-lasting result. Patients who have had many filler sessions are often treated at the clinic by dissolving the filler and replacing it with their own fat.

Frequently asked questions

How much of the fat survives?

Typically half to two thirds of the injected volume survives; the surgeon plans the amount accordingly and a small top-up can be done later if wanted.

Is nano fat the same as PRP?

No. Nano fat is emulsified fat tissue rich in regenerative cells; PRP is a plasma concentrate from blood. They can be combined but nano fat also adds structure to the skin.

Can fat transfer replace a facelift?

Not when the tissues have sagged. Volume restores fullness; a facelift repositions tissue. Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas usually combines both for patients over 45.
