Breast Aesthetic Surgery: What You Need to Know Before Your Procedure

The biggest factor that leads women to consider breast aesthetic surgery is the challenges they face in their social and personal lives. Women who are not satisfied with their breast structure begin to lose their enjoyment of life due to feelings of low self-confidence and unhappiness. Even if they try not to care what others think, the moment they realize that they themselves are also uncomfortable with their current situation, they decide to undergo breast aesthetic surgery. Women may need breast augmentation, reduction, lift, or other aesthetic procedures for various reasons such as breast structure, hormonal changes, pregnancy, or health issues. Different considerations apply to each type of surgery, and the decision on breast aesthetics should be made accordingly.

Breast Aesthetic Surgery: Things to Consider Before Breast Reduction

You should consider breast reduction surgery when health problems caused by breast size increase and when you feel unhappy with your appearance. Your priority should be researching a good surgeon. You should consult an experienced physician who can manage any complications that may arise during the breast reduction procedure. You can note down your questions about breast reduction surgery along with the possible issues we share below, discuss them with your surgeon, and decide on the operation only once you are satisfied and confident with the answers.

  • If you are planning to become pregnant after the surgery, you should inform your surgeon. Since the milk glands may be affected during breast reduction, you should raise this with your physician.

  • You should ask whether side effects such as numbness, burning, or tingling in the breasts may occur after the operation.

  • If the nipple sags downward due to breast size, you should ask whether a lift procedure will also be performed.

Things to Consider Before Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Surgery

  • In breast lift surgery, the operation is performed by calculating the golden ratio between the body and the breast structure to suit the rib cage. Sagging in the breasts can occur due to breastfeeding or weight changes, which is when a lift procedure becomes necessary.

  • Fat injection or breast implants are used for breast lift procedures.

  • The lift should be performed in proportion appropriate to your body structure.

  • Your breast volume should be measured, and the need for an implant or fat injection alongside the lift should be decided.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation

In this section of our article, we will list the most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation means enlarging the breasts through surgery for women with small breasts. It is possible to increase breast size using silicone implants or the fat injection method.

Is there an age limit for breast augmentation?

One of the most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation is whether there is an age limit. As with all other surgical procedures, you must be at least 18 years old.

Does breast augmentation leave scars?

Incisions are made in the skin to place the silicone implants during breast augmentation. If fat injection is performed, only a tiny incision is needed for the injection cannula to enter. Scarring can occur wherever an incision is made. The location of the incision matters. Implants can be placed in the breast using several methods. These are:

  • Periareolar (nipple) incision

  • Transaxillary (armpit) incision

  • Transumbilical (navel) incision

  • Inframammary (under-breast) incision

Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. All methods have been used depending on the era and available technology. Today, the most preferred method is the inframammary incision. Through a small incision made under the breast, silicone implants are placed inside the breast. To keep scarring at the incision site to a minimum, your surgeon will prescribe creams to use after the operation. With regular use, the scars will not be noticeably bothersome.

How many types of breast implants are there?

There are two types of breast implants we use in breast augmentation: anatomical (teardrop-shaped) and round implants. As the name suggests, the anatomical implant is a silicone implant designed to match the natural anatomical shape of the breast. The round implant, on the other hand, is designed to create more cleavage.

Which breast implant is right for me?

It is best to determine which implant is right for you together with your surgeon. The biggest factors in this decision are your skin structure, breast structure, and level of expectation.

Will I be able to breastfeed after silicone implants?

Breastfeeding is well known to be of great importance for a child's health and development. One of the most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation is about the breastfeeding process after surgery. In fact, this depends entirely on the procedure and technique used. Implants placed under the muscle or within the breast tissue do not interfere with the milk glands, so expectant mothers can breastfeed comfortably after giving birth. However, if the periareolar (nipple) incision option is used, the situation may be different, which is why this option is not recommended for patients who wish to breastfeed.

Will I experience a lot of pain?

Breast augmentation surgery is not a very painful process. However, some pain may occur with procedures performed under the muscle. In this case, you are advised to use the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.

When can I go back to work?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure. However, compared to other surgical procedures, the recovery process is much faster. Patients can return to social life 4-5 days after the operation.

Is general or local anesthesia used?

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. Due to the general anesthesia, it is recommended that the patient stay under observation in the hospital for one night after the surgery.

What should I pay attention to after surgery?

You should rest properly after breast augmentation surgery. You should absolutely avoid lifting heavy objects and any movement that could cause bleeding. You can return to social life 4-5 days after the operation. You can start exercising after 1 month. Sunbeds, saunas, and steam baths should be avoided for 6-8 weeks.

Do the implants used have a lifespan?

As today's technology advances, the companies that manufacture implants also benefit from these developments, offering products that provide the best possible service. The silicone implants we use in our own surgeries are FDA approved. They are designed to last a lifetime and do not need to be replaced even years later.

Can sagging breasts be lifted with implants alone?

If there is only mild sagging in the breast, silicone implants alone will be sufficient. However, if the sagging is more significant, a breast lift procedure should be performed together with breast augmentation to achieve the best result.

Can I wear any underwear I want after surgery?

After the operation, you need to wear the special bra provided by your surgeon for 2 months. After 2 months, you can wear whatever underwear you like.

Will I be able to feel the implants when I touch them?

The implants used in breast augmentation are placed underneath the breast tissue. After the operation, you will not feel the implants when you touch them. There will be no sensation of a foreign object in your body. However, keep in mind that there will be some swelling for a few months after the surgery. Once the swelling subsides, your body will accept the implants as its own breast tissue.

When can I wear a bikini? When can I swim?

You can swim and wear a bikini 3-4 weeks after the operation. However, the incision scars under the breast need to be protected from the sun. Otherwise, sun exposure can cause the scars to become permanent.

What is the cost of breast augmentation?

The cost of breast aesthetic surgery varies depending on the procedures required for each patient's specific condition. It is not possible to state a fixed price. The exact price for the operation is determined after a detailed examination.

Which hospital are the surgeries performed in?

We perform all our surgical procedures that require an operating room environment at the hospitals we are affiliated with.

Things to Consider Before Breast Augmentation Surgery

If your breasts, which are one of the features that make you feel most feminine, do not satisfy you and are causing you psychological discomfort, you may need breast augmentation surgery. Breast implants and fat injection are the two different methods used for enhancement and augmentation. Naturalness should be your priority in the result of the operation. For this reason, the size of the implant to be used should be selected in proportion to your body measurements.

  • The decision between fat injection and breast implants should be made jointly by the patient and the surgeon.

  • With breast implants manufactured using advanced technology, issues seen in the past — such as needing to be replaced after a certain period, or implant rupture — no longer occur. Because these implants are made of synthetic material rather than a gel-like structure, such problems simply do not happen.

  • Breast implants, also known as breast prostheses, can be placed in the breast area through an incision under the breast, at the nipple, or in the armpit.

  • Attention should be paid to the structure of the implants placed inside the breast, and the result should not look artificial after the surgery.

  • Depending on the patient's condition, the patient may be able to go home the same day after breast augmentation surgery.

  • There should be no change in breast tissue, and the result should create a genuinely natural breast feel.

  • You should make sure the breast implants do not damage the milk ducts and that there will be no issues with breastfeeding after the surgery.

  • There should be no numbness in the nipple.

  • A physician who is an expert in the field will always guide you in the best way. Forward-looking solutions should be developed for you, such as the choice of implant size, the surgical technique used, and protecting the milk glands if you plan to give birth afterward. A successful breast augmentation will be achieved once the wishes and expectations between the patient and the surgeon have been clearly established.

Breast Reduction Surgery Prices

  • The price of breast reduction surgery varies depending on the patient's condition. In some patients, since there is no sagging caused by breast size, a lift procedure is not needed, while in the opposite case, reduction and lift procedures are carried out together. For this reason, prices may vary.
