Breast augmentation surgery ranks among the most requested procedures within breast aesthetic surgery. Data both in our country and worldwide confirms this. One of the questions on the minds of those considering breast augmentation surgery is "do breast implants prevent breastfeeding?" Before we get into our topic, we will give a brief overview of breast aesthetics. We will then cover the breastfeeding process and pregnancy period for our readers. We hope this is helpful, and wish you pleasant reading.

Breast augmentation aesthetics, as the name suggests, covers breast augmentation surgeries. It ranks among the most requested procedures by women and the most frequently performed surgical interventions by aesthetic surgeons. Breast augmentation surgery takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Recovery time to get back on your feet after the surgery is quite fast. Since general anesthesia is used, patients stay overnight in the hospital for observation and are discharged the next day. After discharge, you can return to work life after 4-5 days of rest. This applies only if the breast augmentation surgery was performed with breast implants alone. If any additional procedure or intervention is performed along with the breast augmentation surgery, the rest period may be extended.

Breast implants are used in breast augmentation surgeries to enlarge, add fullness, and increase volume in the breast. In our previous article, we detailed the types of breast implants for you.

Breast implants used in breast augmentation surgeries are manufactured to be compatible with human health. Materials that are compatible with your health are used. Therefore, breast implants are safe. Your doctor determines the most suitable implant for your body structure to provide you with maximum benefit.

Do Breast Implants Prevent Breastfeeding?

Breast implants used in breast augmentation surgery do not prevent breastfeeding. The technique chosen for the surgery is very important. This matter is just as important to your doctor as it is to you. The goal of breast augmentation surgery is to enlarge and add fullness to a small, low-volume breast structure. The breast's functional characteristics are not disrupted. The procedure preserves the milk glands within the breast that enable breastfeeding. Therefore, breast implants do not pose an obstacle to breastfeeding after breast implants.

Breast Implants and the Pregnancy Process

Since breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia, it cannot be performed if you are pregnant. It would be beneficial to plan the surgery after your pregnancy is over, and even after the breastfeeding period is complete. The breast tissue that has enlarged due to breastfeeding will return to its normal state, and if there is any sagging, this can also be corrected with an additional procedure during the same surgery. Alternatively, you can have breast augmentation surgery before pregnancy. You can plan a pregnancy approximately 1 year after your breast surgery. The reason we specify 1 year is that it takes about a year in total for the breast to heal and settle into its final shape after breast augmentation surgery. If waiting 1 year would mean delaying pregnancy for too long, you should wait at least 2 to 3 months after the surgery.

Do Breast Implants Sag After Pregnancy and Breastfeeding?

A woman's body undergoes a number of physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The breast area also experiences its share of these changes. Planning should take these changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding into account. The technique used to place the breast implants plays an important role here. If the implants are placed under the skin in the breast area, once the skin begins to sag, the weight of the implants can cause it to droop further. However, if the implants are placed under the muscle beneath the breast tissue, the strength of the muscle prevents the implant from sagging downward. Your skin and muscle condition are important factors in determining the surgical technique. Your doctor will advise you on the most suitable option for you and will support you throughout the process.
