Case Study 24: Leg Reshaping with VASER Liposuction and Laser Skin Tightening

The patient's concerns

This patient was bothered by excess fat on her legs and by loose skin. In the late forties, skin elasticity declines, so fat removal alone could leave loose or uneven skin. Her plan therefore combined contouring with skin tightening.

What is VASER liposuction?

VASER is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction technology. Before fat is removed, ultrasonic energy is delivered through a fine probe to loosen and liquefy fat cells while sparing surrounding blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue. The loosened fat is then suctioned out with thin cannulas. Compared with traditional liposuction, this allows smoother, more precise sculpting, generally less bruising and a better skin retraction effect.

What was done

Leg reshaping with VASER liposuction

Stubborn fat was removed from the areas that made the legs look heavy, typically the outer and inner thighs, the knees and, when needed, the calves and ankles, while respecting the natural curves of a feminine leg. Leg reshaping is a general term for a personalised combination of procedures, which can include liposuction, thigh lifts or calf augmentation; for this patient, liposuction with tightening was the right choice.

Laser skin tightening

Laser energy delivered beneath the skin stimulates new collagen and elastin, helping the skin tighten and adapt to the new, slimmer contour. This reduces the risk of looseness after fat removal and improves skin texture.

Result

The patient's legs are slimmer and more proportionate, with a smoother contour and firmer skin. Learn more on the body contouring page.

Recovery

A compression garment is worn for about six weeks. Walking begins the same day to support circulation; most patients return to desk work within a week and to exercise after three to four weeks. Swelling decreases gradually, with the final result visible at three to six months.

Frequently asked questions

Is VASER liposuction a weight-loss treatment?

No. It is a contouring procedure for stubborn fat in patients close to their ideal weight.

Is VASER better than traditional liposuction?

For fibrous areas and skin retraction, many surgeons prefer it; the surgeon's skill matters more than the device.

Will loose skin tighten after leg liposuction?

Mild to moderate laxity improves with ultrasound and laser tightening; significant excess skin may require a thigh lift.

Does the fat come back after liposuction?

The removed fat cells do not return, but the cells that remain can enlarge with significant weight gain, so a stable weight protects the result.

How long is the compression garment worn?

Usually four to six weeks. It controls swelling and helps the skin settle onto the new contour.

When can I return to sport?

Walking from the first days, gentle training after three to four weeks, and full intensity at about six weeks, once the swelling has settled and the compression garment is no longer needed.

Will the skin tighten after the fat is removed?

Young, elastic skin usually retracts well onto the new contour. When elasticity is poor, a skin-tightening device or a lifting procedure is discussed at the consultation instead of relying on retraction alone.
