Case Study 6: Arm Liposuction and Laser Skin Tightening for Slimmer, Firmer Arms
Updated: Sep 18
Case summary
Patient: 31-year-old woman from Egypt
Procedures: arm liposuction, laser skin tightening
Surgeon: Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas, Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas Clinic, Istanbul
Goal: slimmer, better-defined upper arms with firmer skin and no long scar

The patient's concerns
Upper arms are one of the areas where stubborn fat resists diet and exercise. This patient was bothered by excess fat on the back and sides of her upper arms and by skin that had begun to feel loose, which made her self-conscious in sleeveless clothing.
Choosing between liposuction and an arm lift
An arm lift (brachioplasty) removes skin but leaves a long scar along the inner arm and is best reserved for significant skin excess, for example after major weight loss. When the main problem is fat, and skin laxity is mild to moderate, liposuction combined with skin tightening gives excellent contour through tiny incisions. At 31, with good skin quality, this patient was an ideal candidate for the less invasive route.
What was done
Arm liposuction
Through a few millimetre-sized incisions, localised fat deposits were removed from the upper arms with fine cannulas, shaping a smoother, slimmer arm contour from the shoulder to the elbow. Careful, even removal is essential in the arms, where the skin is thin and irregularities are easily visible.
Laser skin tightening
Laser energy was delivered beneath the skin to heat the deeper layers and stimulate new collagen and elastin. As collagen remodels over the following months, the skin contracts and becomes firmer, helping it drape smoothly over the new contour.
Why the combination works
Liposuction removes volume; laser tightening helps the skin adapt to that smaller volume. Together they give a slimmer arm with better skin tone than either treatment could achieve alone. Learn more on the body contouring page.
Result
The patient achieved slimmer, more toned upper arms with smoother, firmer skin and only tiny, inconspicuous incision marks.
Recovery
A compression garment is worn for four to six weeks. Most patients return to desk work within a few days and to exercise after three to four weeks. Swelling settles gradually, and skin tightening continues to improve for up to six months.
Frequently asked questions
Will the fat come back after arm liposuction?
Removed fat cells do not return. A stable weight keeps the result long term.
Is laser skin tightening painful?
It is performed during the same procedure under anaesthesia, and afterwards the arms feel sore rather than painful for a few days.
Who needs an arm lift instead?
Patients with large amounts of hanging skin, typically after major weight loss.

Does the fat come back after liposuction?
The removed fat cells do not return, but the cells that remain can enlarge with significant weight gain, so a stable weight protects the result.
How long is the compression garment worn?
Usually four to six weeks. It controls swelling and helps the skin settle onto the new contour.
When can I return to sport?
Walking from the first days, gentle training after three to four weeks, and full intensity at about six weeks, once the swelling has settled and the compression garment is no longer needed.
