Video 3.17: Fix Down Technique – Cadaver Study Showing the Mechanism of Hump Correction

Surgical video from the book Rhinoplasty in Practice by Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas, plastic surgeon in Istanbul

What this video shows

Video 3.17 is different from the clinical videos in this chapter: it is a cadaver study conducted by the author to demonstrate the operating mechanism of the fix down technique. It shows how the hump is corrected when the septum rotates after the back-cut incision, and it makes clear why the localisation and shape of this incision are so important.

As the book states, the back-cut has to be designed according to the shape of the individual hump to allow anterior-caudal rotation; the cadaver dissection lets surgeons see this relationship directly, without the bleeding and soft tissue that obscure it in a live operation.

Key points

  • Cadaver demonstration of the fix down mechanism.

  • Shows why the back-cut incision must follow the shape of the hump.

  • Complements the live surgical videos 3.11–3.15.
