Video 4.17: Blinking Nose Deformity – Retrograde Dissection and Exposure of the Muscle

What this video shows

Video 4.17 shows the first surgical step in treating the blinking nose deformity. The path of the muscle is marked preoperatively while the patient is awake and the contraction can be seen. After performing tipplasty on the submembranous plane through the inferior intracartilaginous incision, and before closure, a retrograde dissection is made towards the rim and the muscle that passes vertically over the lower lateral cartilage is exposed.

The next step, cauterisation and dissection of the muscle, is shown in Video 4.18.
