Male Rhinoplasty Before and After: What Men Should Look For
Quick answer. Male rhinoplasty before and after photos should show a nose that is straighter and better proportioned but still clearly masculine: a strong, straight bridge rather than a scooped one, a tip that is defined but not pinched or turned up, and a nasal angle that stays lower than in a female nose. Below are real patients of Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas at 7 days, 4 months and 1 year after closed rhinoplasty, with notes on what to check in each photo.
Key takeaways
A masculine nose keeps a straight or very slightly convex bridge and a tip angle of roughly 90 to 95 degrees; over-rotation and over-reduction are the most common reasons men dislike their result.
The angle between forehead and nose reads as gender: in facial feminisation surgery it is deliberately opened by about 15 degrees, which is exactly what a male rhinoplasty avoids.
Judge before and after photos at the same angle, distance and lighting, and look for results at 1 year, not only at 1 week.
Closed rhinoplasty leaves no external scar; men with thicker skin need strong tip support so definition appears as swelling settles.
The fee is quoted individually after Prof. Dr. Tas has reviewed your photographs or examined you.
What makes a nose look masculine?
The difference between a male and a female nose lies in angles and strength rather than size alone. A masculine profile has a straight or almost straight bridge, a tip that projects well and sits at about 90 to 95 degrees to the upper lip, and a relatively narrow angle where the forehead meets the nose. Research on facial feminisation shows how much these angles matter: in a series of 200 feminisation rhinoplasties the frontonasal angle was opened on average from about 134 to 149 degrees to make the nose read as female (Bellinga et al., 2017). A male rhinoplasty does the opposite: it keeps that angle lower and the bridge stronger. Read more in male rhinoplasty vs female rhinoplasty.

What to check in male rhinoplasty before and after photos
Same view, same distance. Front, side and three-quarter photos should be taken at the same angle and lighting before and after; a tilted head can fake a lift of the tip.
The bridge. It should be straight on the profile, without a dip or a "ski-slope". A small hump left on purpose is normal in some men.
The tip. Defined but not pinched; the nostrils should not show excessively from the front, which is the sign of an over-rotated tip.
Width. The bones should be narrowed enough to remove a boxy look but not so much that the nose looks thin for a male face.
Breathing. Ask whether the patient could breathe better afterwards. Men often have a crooked septum and a hump from old sports injuries, so the operation is frequently a septorhinoplasty. See septorhinoplasty in Turkey.
Time since surgery. Photos at 7 days show the immediate shape under swelling; the final result, especially of the tip, takes 12 months or longer in thicker male skin.

At 7 days, when the cast comes off, the bridge is already straight but the tip and the area above it are swollen, so the nose looks slightly larger and rounder than it will. At 4 months most of the swelling has gone and the profile is close to final. At 1 year the tip has slimmed down and the skin has redraped fully. Men with thick, oily skin are at the slow end of this curve, which is why the surgeon builds strong cartilage support into the tip so that definition appears as the swelling settles. Why men choose closed rhinoplasty
Men are often more worried than women about looking "operated". Closed rhinoplasty, in which all incisions are inside the nostrils, leaves no external scar, and the closed atraumatic technique used by Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas handles the tissues gently to limit swelling and bruising. For men, the goal is a nose that nobody notices, not a nose that looks new. Read closed atraumatic rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty guide.

Common mistakes in male rhinoplasty
Over-reduction of the hump, which leaves a scooped, feminine profile.
Over-rotation of the tip, which shows the nostrils and shortens the nose.
Over-narrowing, which makes the nose look thin against a wide male face and can block breathing.
Ignoring the chin. A weak chin makes any nose look larger; some men benefit from discussing the chin and jawline at the same consultation. See jawline.
Most of these are also the reasons men seek revision rhinoplasty; a conservative first operation avoids a second one.
How Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas approaches male rhinoplasty
Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas has performed more than 10,000 nose operations and teaches rhinoplasty to surgeons from other countries at live-surgery courses in Istanbul. He is the author of the textbook Rhinoplasty in Practice (CRC Press, 2020). In men he plans a straight bridge, a tip angle that stays masculine, and enough width to suit the face, and he performs the operation through the closed approach so there is no external scar. Patients from abroad usually stay in Istanbul for about 7 days, until the cast is removed, and online follow-up continues for one year. The fee is quoted individually after your photographs have been reviewed. Frequently Asked Questions
How long does male rhinoplasty take to heal?
The cast comes off after about 7 days and most men return to work within one to two weeks. Bruising fades in two to three weeks. The tip keeps slimming for 12 months or longer, and men with thick skin are at the slower end of that range.
Will a male rhinoplasty make my nose look feminine?
Not if it is planned for a male face. The surgeon keeps a straight bridge, avoids over-rotating the tip and preserves enough width and projection. Ask to see male before and after photos from the surgeon you are considering.
Does male rhinoplasty leave scars?
With the closed technique used by Prof. Dr. Suleyman Tas, all incisions are inside the nostrils, so there is no visible scar. Open rhinoplasty leaves a small scar on the strip of skin between the nostrils, which usually fades well.
Can breathing problems be fixed in the same operation?
Yes. Many men have a crooked septum or collapsed nasal valves from old injuries. These are corrected during the same operation, known as septorhinoplasty, so the nose both looks and works better.
How long do I stay in Istanbul for male rhinoplasty?
About 7 days. The cast and any internal splints are removed on about day 7, after which you can fly home. Online follow-up with the clinic continues for one year.
