Is Rhinoplasty Possible for Under 18?

Is Rhinoplasty After 45 Possible?

Aging and Rhinoplasty

The nose ages just like the skin. Its cartilage structure weakens over time. Gradually, the skin of the nose thins and loses its elasticity. As the nose ages, it can take on a hooked appearance, looking as though it is drooping downward. Because the nose sits at the center of the face, aging in the nose affects the whole shape of the face. Rhinoplasty, in turn, has a positive effect on the appearance of the face.

Rejuvenating Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty helps patients look younger. With rejuvenating rhinoplasty, the aged appearance of the nose is corrected, giving the patient a younger and more harmonious face. This rejuvenating aesthetic nose surgery, called rejuvenation, shares similarities with primary rhinoplasty. However, it also involves addressing the specific changes caused by aging. If a person is unhappy with the shape of their nose, they should not delay having rhinoplasty.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed for Older Patients?

When performing rhinoplasty for older patients, the skin over the nose is lifted through a small incision opened inside the nostrils. The nasal tip, which has drooped downward due to aging, is lifted back up. If a bulge has formed at the tip, it is refined and any humps are corrected. This work on the tip gives the patient a younger appearance. It can also improve any breathing problems, if present. Removing the hump from the bridge also makes the nose sturdier and stronger. In addition, any other areas of the nose that need correcting are addressed after examination. Procedures such as tip reduction and narrowing the nostrils may also be performed. Depending on the condition of the face, rhinoplasty can be combined with other cosmetic procedures; additional enhancements such as fat injection and chin augmentation may also be applied.

Because the skin loses elasticity with age, the healing process can take longer than with standard rhinoplasty. This loss of elasticity can also cause tightening in the skin of the nose. All of this should be considered before rhinoplasty after 45.

What to Consider When Performing Rejuvenating Rhinoplasty

The points to consider when performing rejuvenating rhinoplasty are as follows:

  • The areas that bother the patient should be corrected.

  • If the patient misses the nasal structure they had when younger, restoring that look should be the primary goal.

  • While meeting the patient's expectations, the surgery should be planned with the face's new shape in mind. A youthful nose type should not be designed for the patient simply because that is what the patient expects.

  • Achieving the best result with the least intervention is important.

As we age, our skin loses elasticity, so tightening in the aged skin of the nose after rhinoplasty can take longer, and healing may take a little longer as well.
