Why the same operation has different prices in different countries

That single caveat explains a great deal of confusion online: a headline price is often one block of the bill, not the bill.

In the UK, clinics commonly quote deep plane and full facelifts in five figures in pounds, and the price usually rises again when the neck, eyelids or fat transfer are added. In Turkey, published price guides from patient platforms show very wide ranges, because they mix mini lifts, full lifts and deep plane operations, with and without the neck, with and without a hotel. Neither range is wrong; both are answers to different questions.

The technique and the length of the operation

A limited-incision mini lift, a SMAS lift and a deep plane facelift are different operations. Whether the neck is included

Many low quotations quietly leave out the neck: platysma tightening, submental liposuction and deep neck work. A facelift without treating the neck can leave a sharp difference between a lifted lower face and an unchanged neckline, so ask for the neck to be listed as included or excluded, in writing.

Combined procedures

Eyelid surgery, a brow lift, fat grafting or rhinoplasty in the same session add theatre time and anaesthesia time. They may also reduce the total cost compared with two separate operations, because you pay for one admission and one recovery. What matters is that each is itemised.

Hospital and anaesthesia

A licensed hospital with a dedicated anaesthesia team costs more than an office-based setting, and it is the part of the bill that protects you if something unexpected happens. Ask which hospital, whether an anaesthetist who is not the surgeon is present, and whether an intensive care unit is available on site.

The surgeon

Experience with the specific technique, teaching and publication record and case volume are legitimate reasons for a higher fee. The costs that are not on the quotation

Travel and accommodation. Flights and the nights you spend near the surgeon. A facelift abroad normally requires ten to fourteen days in the city, as explained in our article on facelift in Turkey for international patients.
Time off work. Most people return to desk work after ten to fourteen days, and to public-facing work after about three weeks.
Medication and garments if they are not included in the package.
Extra procedures that are decided at the consultation once your anatomy has been assessed.
Follow-up after you go home. Remote photographic reviews, and what happens if you need an in-person visit.
A revision or a small correction. Ask who pays for the surgeon's fee, the theatre and the travel if a touch-up is needed.

How to compare two quotations honestly

Put the two quotes side by side and check them against the same list. If a line is missing from one, ask for it; if the answer is that it is not included, add an estimate to that quote before comparing totals.

Who is the operating surgeon, named, and will that surgeon be in theatre for the whole operation?
Which technique is planned, and why is it right for your face rather than for the average patient?
Is the neck included, and are eyelids, fat grafting or a brow lift included or separate?
Which hospital, and is the anaesthetist independent of the surgeon?
How many nights in hospital, and what medication, dressings and garments are covered?
How many post-operative checks are included during your stay, and how is follow-up handled after you fly home?
What is the policy for a revision, in writing?

If a clinic will not answer these questions before a deposit is paid, the price is not the problem. The absence of an answer is the answer.
